Euthanasia

For decades, the issue of whether euthanasia should be legalized has long been debated. People who approve of the legalization of euthanasia say that euthanasia can not only reduce patients’ pain and suffering but also economize the use of medical resources. However, as far as I am concerned, I do not assent to euthanasia. There are three reasons why I stand for this position.

It's not you, it's me.

In these days, I find that people tend to shy away while questions touch on their privacy or secret. Few days ago, my friend would like to show me a short film she shot with her mobile phone. At first, I watched the screen with her while she was searching the short film. All of a sudden, she screamed out and took her phone away from me. I had no idea what had happened then, so I kept asking her, “What’s wrong? Is there something you can’t show me?” But she didn’t give me an answer, and shy away from my questions with an abashed smile.

Strawberry Generation

▲Picture from:

1: Sir! Why did you fire me?
2: Strawberry generation is not welcomed in our company.
3: Nonsense! Which part of me looks like a strawberry generation?
4: Tell me! Which part!
Footnote for "strawberry generation": the post 1980s, who grow up in a protected environment and are considered unable to endure hardship. A word from Taiwan.

When people born in the 80’s were still in their teenage year, they were labeled as “Strawberry Generation”. And now it is our (people who born in the 90’s) turn to be called with the same name. What are the traits of Strawberry Generation? The following lists the familiar points which are used as the description of the 80’s or 90’s youngsters: low endurance, low stability, insufficient ability, hylicism, hedonism, irresponsible, and the last one is an idiom “fastidious and demanding but inept”.

Anger Management

Recently, the disturbances of disqualification in Asian Olympics draw the international attention, and people in Taiwan stand up for Taiwanese taekwondo athletes. Both Yang Shu-chun (楊淑君) and Hsia wen-huang (夏文皇) lost their qualifications in the games. I was shocked that the same situation will happen again in such an open-door sport event.

Political Turbulence-Elections in Taiwan

Election is an essential part of a democratic country, for it can push the rotation of political parties. Actually, I am not that interested in politics or elections. I do not appreciate the dark side of politics, so I do not want to be involved with it. However, the election still related to us students. I am now under the eligible voting age, but after two years it will be my turn to vote for the one I endorse. In order to make a better decision in the future, I have to learn more about the political ecology in Taiwan, and cultivate my political literacy.

My Grandmother

In the textbook, Unit5 talked about the elders, and also introduced us to the organization “the Red Hat Society”. It had been mentioned in this unit that women who were under the age of fifty usually dedicated their lives to their children. It makes me think of my grandmother. So, in the ten minutes short talk, I would like to share this topic with you “My Grandmother”. Besides, I will also associate my grandmother’s life with some social phenomenon in Taiwan.

Beautiful But Fragile-Eastern Taiwan

Since I live in a city with smooth weather, it is quite difficult for me to imagine the condition of eastern Taiwan. However, it is easy for us to get the information about the region via the media and the Internet. Typhoon Megi struck Taiwan in October, 2010. The intense rain and winds led to the collapse of Su-Hua Highway. According to the thorough investigation, the major problem of eastern Taiwan must be the fragile geological structure. When we read a topographic chart of Taiwan, it is obvious that over half of the eastern lands are mountains. What is worse is that when it rains heavily, mud will run down the steep mountains, and cause the landslide.

The enchanting city-Chicago

Since I have little common sense about foreign cities and their scenes, I have no idea where the city is when I saw the six pictures on the website. Just then I noticed that there are some tiny words under picture 3. It is “Downtown Chicago”! In order to double check the answer, I use the search engine, and find the same tourist sites that match the six photos offered by the instructor.

With the powerful Internet, all you need to do is to key in the word “Chicago”, and you can find a lot more information about this fascinating city. There are two of the scenic spots located in Millennium Park.

"So I can kiss you any time I want."

My Hometown-Chiayi

Chiayi, my hometown, is a good place to live in. I love this city so much; therefore, I decided to finish my bachelor degree here.
