Reflection

After reviewing the eight tasks I have done in the past few months,

The best two I choose are:
Task 2: Sweet Home Alabama
Task 4: Beautiful but Fragile-EasternTaiwan

And the tasks I dislike are:
Task 5: Political Turbulence-Elections in Taiwan
Task 6: Anger Management.

Let’s talk about the best two first. For task 2, since I love watching movies very much, I enjoy this task very much; I even watch the film for twice! Also, I like the actress Reese Witherspoon who is really good at acting. Besides, the story of “Sweet Home Alabama” is fascinating and inspiring. It is possible that someday I might experience what happened on Mei, so I think a lot about it. Task 4 is an issue that related to our own country. In this task, I know more about eastern Taiwan by surfing on the Internet. In spite of the destruction of highway, there are still lots of beautiful scenic spots in the east of Taiwan. Among the two, I love task 2 most, and I made more response on it. In “Sweet Home Alabama”, my keypal and I talked about Mei’s situation critically; I think it’s pretty good.

When it comes to the tasks I dislike, task 5 is about politics, and I have mentioned many times that I don’t like the politics in Taiwan. Moreover, since I don’t know much about politics, it’s hard for me to come up with critical thoughts about this subject. The reasons why I dislike task 6 are due to some personal factors. While the events of Yang broke out, a large amount of Taiwanese started to have anti-Korea sentiment. However, I am a Korea lover, and it makes me feel uncomfortable that my parents blame me for this. Furthermore, the information and materials of Yang’s disqualification are complicated; it’s a Rashomon. It’s hard for me to feel out the whole incident. The way my keypal and I finish the task is to exchange our information and news with each other, thus we can gain different point of view toward the task.

As far as I’m concerned, I pick task 5 to be the one that should be improved. I suggest that we can discuss a theme that is less sensitive. If we afraid to say something in public, we will choose to shy away from the core, and it’s useless for us to talk about superficial things.

So, Shirley, what do you think about our tasks? Let’s compare and discuss with each other.

  1. The top two tasks that I like the most are task two: Sweet Home Alabama and task three: The Enchanting City – Chicago. To be honest, I’m also a movie lover like Elsa. And writing reflection on movies is way much easier than expressing our opinions on politics. Besides, the movie covers lots of issues such as relationship between family, friends and lovers. And I do find that I respond a lot in these two tasks. As for task three, first of all, this topic helps me to get more information Chicago and urge me to search for the rise and development of Public Art. Secondly, it provides me the chance to introduce the Public Art collection displayed in Taipei to Elsa. Most importantly, this task reminds me that we should spend more time on appreciating the city where we live.

For question four, I think that I do enjoy the discussion of task two. I’ve heard a saying goes, “Thanks to the invention of movie, people tend to live twice longer than the old day” because movie aims at inviting the audience to be involved in it and undergoing the life that we don’t have the opportunity to experience in the reality. Therefore, two different people will have different feelings for the same movie. And I consider it wonderful that everything can be given more than one interpretation.

    1. I am glad that we have one same choice of the tasks we like. For task 2, we even share the same reason: we are movie lovers! Though I love watching movies, I rarely have the chance to watch them. So, I think it is great that my instructor, Gina, introduced this movie to me by doing this blog project. It seems that you really enjoy searching information about task 3. And I enjoy reading your introduction of the Public Art in Taipei ; the pictures you found are also attractive. But for me, I am not good at searching information, so I think task 3 is a little bit troubling.

So, the task we both like the most is task 2. I agree with you that we can undergo the life we do not have the opportunity to experience in the reality through watching different kinds of movies. While we are watching a film, we can imagine we are one of the characters, and put ourselves in his/her shoe.

Dear Shirley, since you have shared your opinions toward the tasks you like, then I would like to know: what are the two tasks you dislike? What do you think about them?

  2. I have the same opinions with you on the tasks that I dislike the most. Because I’m totally not a politics fanatic, it bothers me when I have to make some comments on the phenomenon of Taiwan’s politics in task 5. However, as a qualified voter, it’s irresponsible if I’m ignorant about the candidates’ view on public issues.

As for task 6, I have to admit that I know nothing about tae kwon do. Besides, I was so busy at that time that I didn’t quite follow the news of Yang. Although some of my friends who were resentful at the way Yang had been treated during the whole process tried to explain the incident to me, I was still not yet up to speed on this topic. Therefore, it’s extremely hard for me to come up a good emergency plan for Yang and the disqualification to meet the task’s request.

    1. Though I am fed up with Taiwan ’s political phenomenon, I still look forward to voting in an election. When I reach the legal voting age, it will be the time of presidential election. It is so exciting that my first ballot can vote for president! I have decided that no matter the candidates are good or bad, I will go to the voting booth without fail.

Since both of us are not familiar with this kind of issue (task 6), the emergency plans we can offer are superficial; we can not point out the key solution. Yet, if we can inquire into more correlative information, maybe we can do much better in this task.

  3. Since task 10 is our turn to decide the topic, I think that we should choose what we are all interested in. For instance, our favorite movies??? And I've noticed that you are familliar with lots of Korean artists, maybe we can consider talking about it as well? How do you think about the topic of task 10!?

(btw, I've received your card and gift, thank you very much!!! Happy New Year!!!)

    1. I don't know what we can discuss about if the topic is my favorite Korean stars, so maybe we can talk about movies. And, I think we can introduce the movies we like to each other, or choose a movie that both of us have watched before. Which one do you like? the former or the latter?

I hope you like the gift I choose for you:) Happy New Year!
